Minnie J. Mixon Riles

Minnie J. Mixon Riles, our loving Mother and Grandmother transitioned peacefully at the age of 100 from this life to her Eternal Home with The Lord on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Hickory Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

Minnie was born January 23, 1914 to the union of Mary Cotton and June Mixon in Shelby, Ala. She was the longest living of 14 children and the youngest daughter. She moved to Akron at the request of her oldest brother, Eddie Mixon, around 1937. She retired in her eighties from working with a cleaning company at Kent State University. On her 100th birthday, she received greetings from President and Mrs. Obama, a Proclamation from Governor John Kasich and Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor of the State of Ohio, and a Proclamation from Mayor of Akron, Donald L. Plusquelic, County of Summit, Russell IM Pry, Executive. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Greater Bethel Baptist Church for over 40 years until she united with Macedonia Baptist Church.

God blessed her to be an awesome cook and she was always having family dinners. She never let you go away hungry. You had to tell her that you couldn''t eat any more, then, she would have you fix a care package to go!

Minnie was preceded in death by parents, Mary and June Mixon; all brothers and sisters. She leaves to cherish her home going, her children, Juanakee Riles, Akron, Ohio, Mary (Grover) Williams, Uniontown, Ohio, Nate (Marnell) Riles, Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Doryann Benson, Akron, Ohio, Aryca (Kelton) Waller, Bryan (Laura) Williams, Nikkia (Dante) Escusa, Columbus, Ohio, Nate (Barbara) Riles, III, Twinsburg, Ohio, Aaron Lane, Dayton, Ohio and Taylor Lane, Okinawa, Japan; great-grandchildren, Donovan Satterwhite, Domonique Riles, Langston Waller, Laylah Waller, MaKayla Riles and Preston Riles; nieces, Rosa Ann Mixon and Mary Mixon Deas from the State of New York, Lois Hendricks (Carl) Sylver, Landover, Md.; and nephew, Thomas (Zoe Ann) Hendricks, Birmingham, Ala.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 12 noon, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 940 McKinley Ave., Akron, Ohio 44306. Pastor Lorenzo Glenn eulogizing. Interment Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1739 Cove St. N.W., Uniontown, Ohio 44685.
