Obituary for John Jr. Katrenya

John Katrenya, Jr. age 86, a lifelong resident of Oxford, entered into peaceful rest on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the son of the late John, Sr. and Antoinette (Dytko) Katrenya and was born on October 2, 1927 in New Haven. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during WWII. Mr. Katrenya was a mill operator at UniRoyal in Naugatuck for many years before his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Oxford. In his younger years, he loved to drive cross country and travel with his mother and enjoy the beautiful sights. He was an avid golfer in his early years and continued to enjoy the game on television. After many years of despair he got to see his beloved Red Sox win 3 World Series. He was also a veteran of playing the odds; he enjoyed the local casinos and horse tracks and looked forwarded to his yearly trip to Saratoga. John was a very generous man and from his winning he donated too many charities. Mr. Katrenya leaves his loving family, including his sister in law, Janet Katrenya of Oxford, 4 nephews, Andrew Katrenya of Naugatuck, Richard and Alan Katrenya both of Oxford and Kevin Katrenya of Seymour and 10 grand nieces and nephews. His brothers, Andrew Katrenya, Sr., Harrison Katrenya and Stephen Urick predeceased him. The family would like to thank the Staff at Glendale Center in Naugatuck for the wonderful care given to John during the past 5 years. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, Apr. 1st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. A Service of Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Oxford. Interment with Military Honors to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
