Obituary for Gus Gonzalez

Gus Gonzalez, 99, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Hospice House in Cleveland. He was born Dec. 9, 1914 in Spain. Mr. Gonzalez was a bartender in the local area for many years. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, entertaining, and was quite an artist and cabinet maker." His peculiar eating habits and the fact that he and his brothers refused to eat chicken or fish after the depression is one thing Gus was known for. Gus'' musical taste ranged from Opera to Billy Holiday. A U.S. Army veteran, Gus was a Medic in WWII stationed in England. Survivors are his brother in law, Robert (Virginia) Goyanes; sister in law Rose Gonzalez; nieces and nephews, Laura (Bob Maloney) Goyanes, Manuel Goyanes, Keith Alvarez, Carl (Laura) Gonzalez, and Carol Gonzalez, Ralph (Dorothy) Gonzalez and Donald (Sally) Gonzalez. He is also survived by many loving great nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Aurora "Rita" Gonzalez; parents, Manuel and Filomena Gonzalez; step father Jose Miranda; four brothers, Joseph Alvarez, and Ralph, Donald and Louis Gonzalez; and his niece Karla Gaw. Private family entombment was held at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland.
