Lucille Irene Allen 1914 - 2014 | Obituary | Condolences Lucille Irene Allen Obituary Lucille Irene Allen Lucille Irene Allen, of Cuyahoga Falls, was born on March 18, 1914 in Crooksville, Ohio and died peacefully with family and friends by her side on February 23, 2014 at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center, Akron. She was preceded in death by her husband, Denzil O. Allen; parents, George W. and Edith B. (Starkey) Wilson; and beloved sister-in-law, Rose Bierly. She is survived by her three sisters, Veneta Thropp (Lancaster, Ohio), Dorothy Willis (Lancaster, Ohio) and Ruth VanWinkle (Pantego, Texas); nieces, Rita Bierly (Crooksville, Ohio), Fay and John Kay (New Lexington, Ohio) and Sue Allen (Westerville, Ohio); nephews, Randall Thropp (Los Angeles Calif.), Gary Thropp (Houston, Texas), Craig VanWinkle (Arlington, Texas), Sam and Toni Ketcham (Barberton, Ohio), Ron Ketcham (Mesa, Ariz.), Ralph and Jean Allen (Crooksville, Ohio) and Barney andSandy Allen (Tyler, Texas). She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews nationwide, including Alaine and Alex Kay (New Lexington, Ohio), Andi Allen (Westerville, Ohio), Kim Ketcham (Troy, Ohio), Kellie Gregg (Chicago, Ill.) and Rhonda Ketcham (Mesa, Ariz.). Her large and ever expanding family also includes a great-great-great-great- nephew. A special acknowledgement goes out to her longtime friend and neighbor, Wendy Galligan and her wonderful caregivers, Rosemary Palma, Joy Croston and Shirley Ulm. Lucille graduated from Crooksville High School in 1931 and attended Ohio University, Ohio State University and Kent State University. Lucille and her husband, Denzil were longtime educators. Together they taught school in several Ohio towns beginning in the early 1930''s before settling in the Cuyahoga Falls area. Mr. Allen taught and was principal in the Hudson and Barberton school systems and Mrs. Allen taught elementary school for 29 years in the Franklin County and Stow, Munroe Falls school district. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cuyahoga Falls. Lucille was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, was a lover of good conversations and a terrific game player. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends. Celebrate her near 100 years by attending service 11 a.m. Thursday at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St. (corner of 23rd St. and Falls Ave.), with Rev. John Kay officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before service. Interment at Chestnut Hill Memorial Park.
