Obituary for Pauline F Patmon
YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the New Beginning Outreach Ministry for Mrs. Pauline Frances Patmon, 102, who departed this life Saturday, Feb. 16, 2014, at her home.
Mrs. Patmon was born June 13, 1911, in Sarasota, Fla., a daughter of Clarence and Molly Smith Smart.
She was a 1928 graduate of Warren G. Harding and had been employed as a central supply technician at St. Elizabeth Hospital, retiring in 1983.
Pauline was a faithful member of the Lincoln Avenue Christian Church, where she served as a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher, church mother, and on the culinary committee. She was a member of the NAACP and loved catering weddings.
Pauline’s mother was a hairstylist for Madam C.J. Walker, and Pauline was a child model for Madam Walker.
Mrs. Patmon shared many memories of her years past with her family. She was a strong woman who would give and help others in need. Even if they weren’t in need, she displayed her love toward them. Her motto was, “If someone is in need, give it to them; don’t wait for them to ask – just give. If you see someone in need, give of what you have.”
She leaves to cherish her memories, three children, Vivian (James) Davis of Girard, Richard Patmon (Patricia Shaw) of Cleveland and Charleen Patmon of Youngstown; children she cared for, Rev. Sylvia Jennings and Carl Jennings; two brothers, Nathan (Priscilla) Smith of California and Bernard (Margaret) Smith of Canada; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles, whom she married in the 1930s and who passed away in 1949; five children, Gloria Smith, Alice Berry, Iris “Vonnie” Patmon, Elaine Patmon and Constance Moore; siblings John Smith, Norman Smith, Gene Smith and Louise Cook; three grandchildren, including Alexia M. Barry Jones, whom she reared; and a great-grandson.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
