Obituary for John Edward Hauck

Word received by Mrs. Dora Hauck, mother of Paratrooper and Glider Pvt. John E. Hauck, 37, of near town, was killed in action in Germany, less than a month after the sudden death of Harry M. Hauck, his father on February 21st.

He volunteered, March 7, 1943, for Airborne duty; qualified as a glider trooper the following December and had five jumps to his credit as a paratrooper, prior to transfer over seas for what he termed “the next big Jump.” He also trained at Camp Forrest, Tenn.

He was last employed locally at the foundry, and was for six years was a member of the Fleetwood National Guard.

His letters to the patriot were always Jolly, and he laughingly dubbed himself a “PFA,” “Private For Always.”

Surviving besides his mother are two sisters and three brothers; Corp Walter Hauck, Camp Pinedale, Cal.; Harry, Kutztown; James, Washington; Mrs. Norman Merkel, Allentown; and Anna, Reading.
