The Life of MYRTLE ELLEN WALKER

M. Ellen Walker, born August 7, 1931, passed away February 19, 2014 at her home in Carlisle. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Carlisle Christian Church in Carlisle with lunch and visitation from 11:00 a.m. till service time Monday. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ellen lived most of her married life on 40 acres just southeast of Carlisle and moved into Carlisle in August of 2001. Ellen retired from Crouse Cartage Company in 1998 where she worked 30 some years. Ellen attended Carlisle Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and served as Church Board Secretary, served on the Deaconate. Ellen was a charter member and past president of the Carlisle Lioness, volunteered in the Carlisle Literacy Program and at the Carlisle Public Library, where she also served on the board.

Ellen enjoyed dancing (especially the waltz), square dancing, camping, traveling, reading, walking, visiting with friends, eating out (did not enjoy cooking, however she used to enjoy baking, cookies, her specialty). Ellen was always there for family, if they needed a place to stay or other needs.

Ellen is survived by her companion Howard Sharon, son Charles (Mary Jo Healey) Walker, granddaughters Shannon Walker and Shawntel (Chris) Armstrong, great grand children; Logan Micheal Walker, Lilliana Josephine Paris and Lexi Jane Paris, Dylan Glenna Smith; sister Marvel Dolph and nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Harold and parents Cecil and Mable Burgett.

Memorials may be made to the Carlisle Christian Church Memorial Scholarship Fund which was started by Ellen and Harold in October, 2002 and January, 2003 and the Carlisle Library.
