The Life of ROSCOE EUGENE SIMMONS

Roscoe “Gene” Simmons, 69, was born October 19, 1944 in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Roscoe Simmons and Grace Leonard, and was raised by Doris and Esther Simmons. He passed away February 2, 2014 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1962. He worked for Bookeye, Swift, and the DOT for 22 years, retiring in 2002. Gene enjoyed traveling and spending time with his friends, but most importantly, he loved being with his family.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Lupe; son, Ronald (Tammy) Simmons of Des Moines; daughter, Terry (Brian Kelly) Treanor of Phoenix; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as eight brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his father, mothers, two sisters, and one grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Gene.
