The Life of HOBERT CARL COOPER
Hobert Cooper, 86, passed into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was born November 6, 1927 in Slickford, Kentucky, to Omer and Vada (Upchurch) Cooper.
Hobie was a proud graduate of Valley High School class of 1946, served in the United States Navy during World War II, and retired as a Switchman from the Rock Island Railroad in 1996. He was an active member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church and enjoyed playing practical jokes and listening to blue grass music.
Hob is survived by his children, John (Jan) Cooper, Cindy (Don) Dyer and Diane (Steve) Thompson; 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty (Bob) Cardwell, as well as many other family members and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Geraldine Cooper and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2014 at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 321 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines. The family will greet friends Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with a Masonic service beginning at 7 p.m. A private family burial will occur on Saturday at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, the ARL, or to Taylor House Hospice in loving memory of Hobert.
