The Life of DOLORES MAY SMITH

Dolores May “Mic” Smith, 83, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mic was born March 15, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa to George and Alta (Clark) Mickesh. She was a proud alumnus of Lincoln High and a very involved member of Clifton Heights Presbyterian Church. Mic retired from Central Life Assurance. After retirement, she worked for Woodsmith.

Mic loved being active. She enjoyed playing bridge, was a member of the Girls Club, loved mushroom hunting, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Mic was on the board of Calvin Manor and was a part of the Retirees Club of Central Life Assurance.

Mic is survived by her children: Janiffer Thompson (Fred), Jodine Shepard (Dave Leinen), and Julie Henderson (Dan); grandchildren: Brenton Stanton, Lynn Dively, Eric White, Angela Shepard, Stephanie Cozad, and Christopher Cozad; ten great grandchildren; and her siblings, George and Joseph Mickesh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William R. Smith; daughter, Jillene Long; and brother, Clarence Mickesh.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, January 24, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, also at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association in loving memory of Mic.
