The Life of ROBERT JAMES GREEN

Robert James Green, 77, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Taylor House Hospice surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Bob was born February 26, 1936, to Alfred J. Green and Anna L. Fulton in Fairfield, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in 1954, and was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon.

Bob is survived by his wife Margie; his sister, Mary (Ron) Gruber of Stuart; his son, Bob (Carol) Green of Des Moines; daughters, Lori Bond of Mesa, Deb Rose of Granger, and Judy Johnson of Des Moines; stepchildren, Deb (Dale) Rieck of Bondurant and Lori Neff of Mitchellville; grandchildren, Rob (Autumn) Green, Renee Cole, Jessica Marrero, Stephanie Dante, Grace Rose, Samantha Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Cole (Katie) Rieck, Holly Rieck, Ryan (Amanda) Neff, Ashley Neff, and Joshua Neff; as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anna; and a brother, Richard.

Memorial contributions are being directed to Taylor House or the Animal Rescue League.

In 1960, Bob became a Des Moines Firefighter, where he served for 31 years, retiring in 1991 as an Engineer. After retiring from the fire department, he became a school bus driver where he enjoyed driving students of all ages around for 35+ years. He drove bus for both Des Moines Public Schools and Bondurant-Farrar Community Schools. Bob always had a funny story to tell, a contagious laugh, and a smile that could brighten anybody’s day. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, and taking day trips with Margie to Lake Rathbun. The family would like to thank the staff at Mitchell Village Care Center for the care they have given to Bob.
