The Life of Dennis Metz
YOUNGSTOWN – Dennis D. Metz, 70, passed away the morning of Jan. 8, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
Born May 3, 1943, in Connellsville, Pa., he was a son of John P. and Dorothy M. Reshenberg Metz.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet McWilliams Metz, whom he married Feb. 28, 1968.
He was a 1961 graduate of New Castle High School. Dennis was an accountant most of his life, being employed with several companies, including Howland Industries, Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, Canfield Steel and Universal Rundle.
Dennis was a three year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a SP-4 in the Army Finance Corps in Gissen, Germany, until honorably discharged in 1964.
He was a life member of B.P.O. Elks No. 69 in New Castle, Pa. and member of V.F.W. Post No. 4192 in Mineral Ridge. Dennis was a former member of the Croton United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Heidi and Scott Smith of McDonald and Gretchen and Steve Dorn of Florence, Ky.; one brother, Ronald Metz of New Castle; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Saturday at 3 p.m.
Burial will be at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield.
