The Life of Mary Byrd Zimmerman Laney

Mary M. Laney, age 81, wife of the late Melvin Laney and Ansonia resident, passed away Dec. 26, 2013. She was born Oct. 11, 1932 in Hartsville, S.C. daughter of the late Lucas & Viola Smith Byrd.  She worked as a self employed house cleaner and was a member of the Star of Bethlehem Church in Ansonia.  She is survived by 5 sons William "Slim", David "DZ", Slyvester "Sly" and Troy & Marlo, her daughter Carol, her first husband David Sr., brothers William, Lucas, Thomas & Delome, 3 sisters Mary, Frances & Charlena and 21 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  Friends may call 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the service at the church.  Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.  The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT is entrusted with arrangements (www.jenkinskingfh.com)  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.
