The Life of THOMAS R. FLECKENSTEIN

Thomas R. Fleckenstein, 81, of Wernersville, passed away September 18, 2021, at Penn State Health St. Joseph. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Robert F. and Rose C. (Barycki) Fleckenstein. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia M. (Kocan) and sons Thomas D. and David B., and his wife Kelly L., and grandchildren, Brian T., Matthew D. and Megan A., Sister Mary Anne wife of John Gilbert. Nieces, Aimee J. Sargent (Steven), and Kristen M. Osorio (Luis). He graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School in 1958 and enjoyed meeting regularly for dinners with fellow classmates. He earned degrees in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University and Business Management from the University of Hartford. He started work in Reading with Aetna Life and Casualty transferring and taking several positions in Safety, Engineering, Risk Management and Loss Control throughout New England until returning to the Philadelphia area where he later retired from Aetna as a Senior Account Supervisor and took on consulting work with other firms for a few years post-retirement. He enjoyed model railroading and meets, amateur radio, earning his license in retirement, railroad and local histories, sharing his field-work travels, train ride excursions with family and friends and reading the complete Sherlock Holmes and Clive Cussler collections. He enjoyed the many times spent with family and friends on vacation, at celebrations and gatherings and at his grandchildren’s activities, as well as chatting with neighbors and friends during his daily walks. Thomas was a member of St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church in Robesonia. A viewing with family and friends will be held on Monday September 27, 2021, from 9:30 am to 11:15 am at Bean Funeral Homes, 3825 Penn Avenue, Sinking Spring. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday September 27, 2021, at the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane cemetery. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale.
