The Life of JANE MARIE STEWARD JOHNSON

Jane Marie Steward Johnson, 83, passed from this life on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, at Windsor United Methodist Church, located at 6222 University Avenue in Des Moines, of which she was a member. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Jane was born on June 13, 1930, in Boone, Iowa, as the first of triplet daughters to Bessie Marie Anderson and Roy Denver Steward. She graduated from Des Moines North High School on May 1, 1948, and went to Comptometer School of Business to become a comptometer operator. After graduation she was employed by the former Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She met her beloved husband, Charles, on July 4, 1948, at Trinity Methodist Church. They were married on September 17, 1950. Jane retired from U.S. West Telephone Company on February 28, 1997, with 22 years of service. She had served as a Campfire Girl leader, President of Hillis Elementary and Franklin Jr. High P.T.A, and as a Sunday school teacher. Jane loved to play cards with her family, friends, and bridge groups for many years. She was active in her quilting guild, the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild, and made many quilts for family, friends, and for donations to many organizations. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Clifford Johnson; three children, Linda Marie (David) Fullhart, Peggy Jean Nielsen and Jay Steward (Deborah) Johnson; and sisters, Jean Marcia Steward of Des Moines and Joye Myra Steward (Walter, Jr.) Paul of Anita, IA. She was blessed with five grandchildren, Kathryn Marie Fullhart (Christopher) Galle, Sarah Berniece Fullhart, Tyler Jon (Tara) Nielsen, Bennett Charles Nielsen and Corbin Linn Nielsen. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jack Anderson Steward and Donn Horatio Steward. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, December 13, at Iles Westover Chapel, located at 6337 Hickman Road in Des Moines. The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be made in Jane Johnson''s name to Windsor United Methodist Church, Kavanagh House in Des Moines, or Alzheimer''s Research Foundation.
