The Life of Dorothy Gallagher

Dorothy Alice (Conlin) Gallagher, a resident of West Roxbury for 61 years, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the West Roxbury Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Boston. She was 82. Dorothy was born April 5, 1931 in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the five children of George Joseph and Loret E. (Webster) Conlin. She graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls with the Class of 1948 and worked at the Jordan Marsh Company before spending 7 years as a Clerk for the John Hancock Insurance Company. Dorothy was a member of theLladies Auxilliary of the Disabled American Veterans, a Past President of the Jacob Jones Post 2018 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Dedham, and a member of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her husband, Robert Henry Gallagher; her daughter, Elizabeth McFarland of Ottowa, Illinois; her four sons, Robert W. Gallagher of West Roxbury, Donald G. Gallagher of Newtonville, David F. Gallagher of Davenport, Iowa, and Thomas E. Gallagher of Virginia Beach, Virgina; her brother, George F. Conlin of Georgia; her sister, Donna M. McLeod of Plainville; five grandchildredn; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was the sister of the late William E. Conlin and the late Lorraine A. Westgate. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 10th from 4 to 8 PM at the Folsom Funeral Home, 63 Belgrade Avenue, Roslindale. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Wednesday at 11 AM at the funeral home followed by burial in the Gardens at Gethsemane Cemetery, Baker Street, West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers donations to the Disabled American Veterans, 425 Union Street, West Springfield, MA 01089 or to the Jacob Jones Post 2018 VFW, 84 Eastern Avenue, Dedham, MA 02026 would be appreciated.
