The Life of DALE EDWARD MCDOWELL
Dale Edward McDowell, 87, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at Urbandale Health Care Center, in Urbandale. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Saturday. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, in Des Moines.
He was born on November 12, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Roy F. and Marian (Jones) McDowell. He grew up in Johnston, Iowa and at the age of 17, Dale joined the U.S. Navy in which he served for three years during World War II. For 45 years, Dale was employed with Ford Motor Company.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his former wife, best friend and lifelong companion, Marie M. McDowell of Urbandale; four daughters, Lois (Scott) Taylor of Hohenwald, TN, Nene (Jana) McDowell of Independence, MO, Marjorie D. McDowell of Urbandale and Michelle (Charles) Hoops of Des Moines; twin sisters, Wanda (Russ) Slauson of Grimes, IA and Wanita (Don) Major of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded into eternal life by his parents; two brothers, George (Lucille) McDowell and Roy McDowell, Jr.; and son, Larry Dale McDowell.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers at Urbandale Health Care Center for all the care, support and assistance they gave Dale during his stay.
