The Life of CHARLES CARL BROOKS III

Charles Carl "Chuck" Brooks III, 78, departed this earth October 29, 2013 at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines, from complications of Lewy Body/Dementia/Parkinson''s Disease. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 2 at Westchester Evangelical Free Church in Des Moines with burial at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren''s Chapel in West Des Moines. Chuck was born October 15, 1935 in Des Moines, the only child of Charles Carl Brooks Jr., and Leda Hall. Chuck graduated in 1953 from Valley High School, West Des Moines and in 1957 from Drake University in Des Moines. He served with the Iowa National Guard from 1958 to 1963 while working with his father at Colonial Petroleum Company in West Des Moines. Chuck began work for Augustine and Co. in 1963 and passed his CPA Certification in 1965. He became a partner in the firm in 1973. In 1984, he co-founded Brooks, Lodden, PC. Upon retiring in 2000 he worked part time for the Jay Newlin Trust, until his full retirement in 2005. Chuck leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Gwendolyn Brooks of Urbandale; sons, Marcus (Shannon) Brooks of Orlando, FL and David (Clorrisa) Brooks of Urbandale; and six dear grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Chuck loved serving the Lord and was known for his generous nature. He enjoyed family, traveling and model railroading. Chuck served in various capacities in church-related organizations. For many years he was an active member and deacon of Westchester Evangelical Free Church. More recently he became a member of Waukee Community Church, which is pastored by his son, David. Memorial contributions may be made to Waukee Community Church, Campus Crusade for Christ in Orlando, FL or Hospice of Central Iowa.
