The Life of PAUL EVERETT VAN SCOYK

Everett Van Scoyk, 80, was born December 26, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Marshall and Frances Van Scoyk. He passed away due to respiratory illness on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Everett married Helen Holland on November 14, 1953 at All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines. He was a meat cutter for the majority of his life and later worked at Casey’s General Store. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, playing cards, traveling & being outdoors and making the best beef jerky, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Everett is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen; children, Mike (Michelle) Van Scoyk and Pam Van Scoyk; grandchildren, Shaun Braem and Gabi Mehta; siblings, Lucille, Dolores, Jim and Colleen; as well as many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Laverne, Arnold and Larry. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Transitional Unit Care, the CIC at Lutheran Hospital, and his home health team for their care and compassion. A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd in Des Moines, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at St. Joseph Catholic Church in loving memory of Everett.
