The Life of Ruby McPhail Gordon

Mrs. Ruby Ruth McPhail Gordon, wife of the late Charles Gordon & longtime Ansonia resident, went from labor to reward on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. She was born June 23, 1924 in the Society Hill section of Darlington, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late James Cornelius McPhail & Maudie Tedder McPhail. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Edward “Eddie” Charles Gordon. Mrs. Gordon is a 1946 graduate of West Virginia State where she played basketball, and the Community School for Nursing in Springfield, MA. She was a retired employee of the State of CT., working at the former Laurel Heights Hospital in Shelton CT and Fairfield Hills Hospital of Newtown CT. Community activities included Sheba Chapter #1, Order of Eastern Star, past matron, member of the JAT Scholarship committee and the N.A.A.C.P. Ruby was a devoted member of The Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church of Ansonia, where she served as class leader, stewardess and member of the Sunday school. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. at The Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.
