The Life of ROBERT EMERSON BROBST

Robert “Bob” E. Brobst, 75, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Grinnell Regional Hospital in Grinnell. Bob was born December 6, 1937 in Des Moines to Emmett and Effie Brobst. He retired from Macklanburg-Duncan in 2000 where he had worked in sales for over 30 years. Bob enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Holiday Lake. He also loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Bob spent his winters in Texas. He was a Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star until 2006. Robert is survived by his wife, Betty Hilken-Brobst; daughters, Kim (Rick) Brobst-Hinkle and Kathy (Marty) Gipple; stepsons, John (Levonne) Hilken and Mark (Kathy) Hilken; stepdaughter, Judy Thompson; siblings, Pat and Bill; grandchildren, Hillary, Nick, Josh, Katie and Justin; step-grandchildren, Matthew, Rebecca, Jennifer, Mychal, Katherine, Christyne and Robert; eight step-great-grandchildren; and many extended relatives and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Diane; his parents; brother, Jim; brother-in-law, Linn; and stepson, Reverend William Thompson. Visitation will be held at 5 to 7 p.m. with Sharing of Memories at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at St. James Lutheran Church, 502 Washington St. in Victor, Iowa followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or St. James Lutheran Church.
