The Life of RODNEY DALE HENDERSON
Rodney "Rod" Dale Henderson, 72, of Des Moines, IA passed away on September 24, 2013 at Taylor House Hospice after a long struggle with COPD and heart disease. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 30 at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Rod was born October 8, 1940 in Des Moines to Rodney H. and Esther L. (Nelson) Henderson. He lived in Des Moines all his life and attended East High School. In December of 1957 he married his wife of 56 years, Brenda (Kaiser). He did a brief stint in the Air Force in 1958. He spent time working in construction in the Kansas City area with family members before returning to Des Moines and working for the City of Des Moines, where he retired after 32 years of service due to disability related to his chronic health conditions.
Rod is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Gayle (Mike) Murray; and four grandsons that he treasured, Collan (Ames), Caleb, Cobey and Carson, all of Des Moines; his three brothers, Everette (Twila) Henderson, John Henderson and Bob (Barbara) Henderson, all of Des Moines; and several nieces, nephews and cousins (Des Moines and Texas). He was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Esther Henderson and sister-in-law, Carol Henderson.
Rodney was served by Taylor House Hospice for the last six months of his life and referred to the in-home provider team as "My Hospice Angels." His family found the in-patient staff to be equally impressive and helpful. Memorial contributions in Rodney''s name may be offered to Taylor House Hospice.
