The Life of DONALD LEE HIXSON
Donald Hixson, 73, was welcomed into God''s arms on Sunday, August 18, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 22, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Don was born April 8, 1940, in Des Moines to Patrick and Gretchen (Winters) Hixson. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 14. At age 20 he married his life-long companion, Mary, to whom he was married for 53 years. They made their home in Des Moines where they raised their three sons. For 42 years he built his own business, Don Hixson Painting, to provide for his family. Don enjoyed all sports, especially the L.A. Dodgers, Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR. As a man of honesty and integrity he will be missed by all who knew him. Don is survived by his wife, Mary, three sons, Dewayne (Jean) Hixson of West Des Moines, J. Russell (Julie) Hixson of Cumming and Jeff S. Hixson of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Kyle and Allison, McKenzie, and Tyler, Sean, Josh, Miya and Tayia; his siblings, Robert G. Hixson of Waukee, Carole A. (Bob) Lathrum of Winterset, and Patricia J. Sharpe of Truro. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm Wednesday at Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer''s Association or Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary & Rescue.
