The Life of ROY SPENCER STRUVE
Roy S. Struve, 65, went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 13, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Hospital.
Left to cherish Roy''s memory are his wife, Jo Ann of 42 years; also his son, Ryan Struve (Jessica); grandson, Owen; sister, Sharon Struve; sister-in-law, Deby Johnson; other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends. His greatest joy in life was his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Julie Struve in 2010 as well as his parents, Melvin and Gertrude Struve.
Roy was born August 1, 1947, in Burwell, NE, and raised in Deshler, NE. He completed X-ray and nuclear medicine training at the University of Nebraska Medical School in Omaha. He worked at several hospitals as well as General Electric over his career. His last position at Marshalltown Medical and Sugical Center was as Director of Radiology followed by Nuclear Medicine Technologist until 2010.
Roy was a very talented, enjoying many hobbies. He was skilled at wood-working, bread baking, quilting, and many others. He won many ribbons for his breads at the Iowa State Fair, including Best of Show. He shared his great humor with friends and family and had a wonderful smile.
Visitation with the family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 914 NW Ash Drive, Ankeny. Private burial will be held before services. A service to celebrate Roy''s life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church, Iowa Donor Network or a charity of choice.
Roy was blessed to be a kidney transplant recipient in 2005. Roy is now an organ donor.
