The Life of ANNA MYRTLE HARVEY

Anna Myrtle (Love) Harvey died May 13, 2013, at her home in Des Moines. She was born January 21, 1920, to Homer and Eva (Fillman) Love. She grew up on a farm near Runnells and attended a one-room school house until 8th grade. She graduated from East High School, Class of ''36, at age 16. Myrtle married Chester Harvey June 14, 1940, and had their first child, Chester, while he was serving overseas in the military. They had four more children, Judy, Tom, LeRoy, and Nancy. While the children were young, Myrtle was a traditional stay-at-home mom involved in church, school, PTA, Bluebirds and Cub Scout activities. Entering the work force after the kids were in school, she had two primary jobs - secretary to Dr. Celander for six years at Still College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, and program administration assistant for 15 years in Guaranteed Student Loans at Drake University, retiring in 1985. Besides being involved in ABWA and Simpson UMW, she gardened, canned, sewed, quilted, and enjoyed vacationing with Chet and family. Anna is survived by daughters Judy (Van) Somers and Nancy (John) Sullivan, both of Des Moines; sons LeRoy (Susan) Harvey of Phoenix, AZ and Tom (Linda) Harvey of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by husband Chet, son Chester, granddaughter Nancy, grandson Matthew, and brothers Elmer and Cliff. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Simpson United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Grandview Park Funeral Home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be directed to the family or Simpson United Methodist Church.
