The Life of ANNA MARIE HICK

Anna Marie Oldelehr Hick, 93, of Ankeny died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Taylor House. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Our Lady''s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church. The family will greet friends one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Anna was born in Westphalia, MO on January 25, 1920 the fifth child of Joseph and Bernadine (Knuever) Oldelehr. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1938, and was taught by the nuns of Notre Dame. After graduation she worked as a governess, for the Welfare and Relief program, and in the accounting department of Oberman and Company in Jefferson City, MO. She married Donald W. Hick of Altoona, IA on November 23, 1945, in Jefferson City, MO. They moved to Ankeny, IA and lived there together for 43 years. She was a strong supporter and partner of her husband, who was the manager of Denniston and Partridge Lumber Company and a housing developer of Ankeny. Anna was an active member of Our Lady''s Immaculate Heart Church and taught religious education classes for 25 years. She volunteered as a Camp Fire and 4-H leader for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters Cecilia, Coletta, Marie, and Hilda, brother Joseph, and grandson Nathan. Anna will be greatly missed by her three daughters Roxianne (Barry) Bedford of Coralville, Paula Hick of Ankeny and Stephanie (Don) Jones of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Josephine Forck. Memorial contributions may be directed to Our Lady''s Immaculate Heart Foundation.
