The Life of VIRGIL ABRAM FISHER

Virgil, age 91, died May 23, 2013. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28 at Marquisville United Methodist Church, 5345 NE 14th St. Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 27, at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road Urbandale. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens following the service. He was born on January 16, 1922 in Woonsocket, S.D. Virgil was a WW II veteran and served from 1939 to 1945 in the US Army. He served in the North African and European Theatres, under General Patton. Virgil worked as a sheet metal worker, where he owned his own business the last 14 years of his working career. He was also a proud member of Local 45. He married Betty Moore on October 4, 1946. Virgil is survived by his wife, Betty; son, John; grandchildren, Heidi (Darren) Sickerson, Jodi (Steve) Nobile, Andy (Holly) Roby, McKenzee and Trent Fisher; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Drew, and Madison Sickerson, Joe and Maggie Nobile; sister, Marigold Simpson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janet; daughter-in-law, Cindy Fisher; two brothers. A special thanks to CLC at the VA Hospital and University Park Nursing Home. Memorials may be given to Marquisville United Methodist Church.
