The Life of HELEN MINICK

Helen C. (Kozak) Minick, 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Quarry Hill in Camden ME where she resided for the past 4 years on December 18, 2022.  Prior to moving to Maine in 2011 to live with their daughter, she lived with her husband in Kenhorst, Reading, Pa for 63 years.

Helen was born in Reading PA to her immigrant parents George and Agatha (Walus) Kozak on October 3, 1923.  She is predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Enlow (Eddie) Minick who she met on a blind date in March and married in July 1943 just 2 months prior to his being sent overseas for 3 years to fight during WWII. She is also predeceased by her parents and her brothers Edmund and Zygmund (Ziggy) Kozak and sisters Genevieve (Podgurski) and Anna (Tack).

Growing up Helen lived in East Reading and attended St. Mary’s Parochial School. She worked at the Reading Clothing as a seamstress during WWII and later on as a waitress at Pennsupreme. She later worked in a dental office and then at Sears in the credit office and as a sales clerk prior to retiring.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Kathy Kamzelski; grandchildren Kevin Kamzelski (Jennifer, who Helen always called Kevin’s lady friend), and Tanya (Tom) Blanchard; great-grandchildren Cate (John), Joshua (Megan), Natasha, Forrest, Zach, Maddie, Emma, Sophie and Silas; and great-great-grandchildren Ali, Norah and Roman; and several nieces and nephews. Helen will be fondly remembered by everyone for her sense of humor, love of working in her little garden, sewing, knitting, her sock monkeys, and attributing her longevity to daily walks. She will also be remembered by the staff at Quarry Hill for her little wiggle dance when she walked using her walker and for trying to teach them Polish.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at Gethsemane Cemetery Resurrection Chapel 3139 Kutztown Rd, Reading, Pennslyvania on January 9, 2023, at 10:30 am immediately followed by entombment.
