The Life of HOWARD HENRY KLEIN

Howard Henry Klein, 88, passed away May 4, 2013 at Fountain West Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held at West Des Moines Christian Church on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be one hour earlier at 10 a.m. Howard was born on a farmstead West of Pella, IA. His family moved to another farm near Pleasantville, IA in 1931 and Howard attended public schools in Pleasantville, graduating from high school in 1942. He went on to Capital City Commercial College before entering the Army in 1945. Howard became a Certified Public Accoutant in 1952 and was employed by Wilbert Burial Vault Co. for over 50 years. Howard sang with the Iowa Pride Barbershop chorus for over 30 years and also sang many years in his church choir. He was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church, the YES Sunday School Class and Tuesday Tunes. He also belonged to the 76 Dance Club, Duet Again Club and was in many of the exercise classes and other activities at the Lodge of Ashworth. He also was a resident advocate at Fountain West Health Center and a volunteer at Ramsey Village in Des Moines. Howard is survived with wonderful memories by his loving wife, Novalee (Lee) Klein; sons, Alan (Becky) Klein and John (Carol) Klein; brother, Argyle Gene (Jacquelyn) Klein; step-children, Shawn (Nancy) Hanson, Scott (Ruth) Hanson, Linda (Marius) Christensen, Sandy Neal, Patricia (Sam) Ioga, Tammy (Ron) Chalup; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and counsins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Jeanette (Paltzer) Klein; his first wife, Ferne Klein; and his second wife, Marilyn Klein. Howard and his family were most appreciative of his wonderful care by Hospice of Central Iowa and the dedcated staff at Fountain West Health Center. Memorial contributions may be given to West Des Moines Christian Church and Hospice of Central Iowa.
