The Life of WILLIAM ALBERT LETTINGTON

William Albert Lettington, 90, passed away April 28, 2013, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. He was born July 24, 1922, in Sandyville, Iowa, to William Thomas and Ollie Bell (Byers) Lettington. Bill served in the United States Army during World War II where he was injured and awarded the Purple Heart. He worked many years as an interior carpenter, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill is survived by his children: Craig (Fran) Lettington, Nancy (Mike) DeSmidt, Cathy Sharp, and Karen (Bob) Teig; his grandchildren: David DeSmidt, CJ Lettington, Stephanie Apple, Renee Lettington, Michelle Huss, Chris Sharp, Meredith Sharp, Alex Teig, Lindsey Riley, and Jon Teig; his great-grandchildren: Mary DeSmidt, Greta DeSmidt, David Jack Huss, Lyssa Apple, Kaeden Apple, and Madilynn Riley; and his brother, Dean. He was preceded in death by his wife, Letha; his parents: William and Ollie Bell Lettington; and his brothers and sisters: Russell Lettington, Maye Browning, Wilma Halterman, Thelma Nyswonger, Chester Lettington, Clyde Lettington, and Ruth Jones. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa in loving memory of Bill.
