The Life of CHARLES VANCE BLAKLEY

Charles Blakley, 76, passed away March 26, 2013, at his home in Bondurant. He was born March 8, 1937, in Harold, Iowa, to John and Dorothy (Vance) Blakley. Charles served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and retired after 27 years of service. He spent four years in Germany and was stationed at multiple sites in the United States. He has been owner and operator of his own excavating business since 1975. Throughout his life he had a love of horses, especially his own, Cowboy and Smoke. Charles is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Jody (Herb) Wright; stepdaughter, Stacy (Ryan) Roberts; stepson, Mike (Kate) Schultz; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; as well as five brothers and sisters, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie Bennethum; brother, Steve Blakley and grandson, Christopher Ceretti. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial following at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. In loving memory of Charles, memorial contributions may be made to the family to be designated at a later date.
