The Life of JAMES HOWARD IRELAND
James "Jim" Howard Ireland, 64, passed away February 9, 2013, at Taylor House Hospice, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 14, 1949, in Des Moines.
Jim served in the United States Army. He attended Sunshine Open Bible Church in Des Moines for many years. He was an outdoors man who enjoyed fishing, and was a Hawkeye fanatic.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sheree; children, Scott (Tracy) Dawson and Angie Poortinga; grandchildren, Tom and Emily Dawson, and Jared and Jordan Poortinga; brother, Greg (Lou) Ireland; and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ramona Ireland.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Jim.
