The Life of LUEVELVA JUNE STRONG OLSON

Luevelva “June” Strong Olson, 92, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Fountain West Care Center. June was born June 20, 1920, in Popejoy, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Laura (Willis) Strong. She graduated from Dows High School and attended Burroughs Business School. On October 5, 1941, June married Kenneth Olson. She worked at the Des Moines Ordnance Plant in Ankeny and Alcoa Aluminum in Phoenix, Arizona, from 1942 to 1945. She later worked in the cafeteria for the Des Moines Public Schools. June was a member of Staves Memorial United Methodist Church and Legion Auxiliary Post 374. She enjoyed gardening, day travel trips, her Staves Church family, and most of all, spending time with her family. June is survived by her son, Larry (Sandy) Olson; daughter, Janice (Landon) White, both of Des Moines; granddaughters, Shawn (Eddie) Hamilton of Des Moines and Terri (Aaron) Ott of Thornton, Colorado; and great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Tristan, Railyn, and Kiara. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Fred Strong. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Staves Memorial United Methodist Church, 2747 E. Madison Avenue, followed by burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Thursday, at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to Staves Memorial United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Fountain West Care Center for their care and friendship, and also to Iowa Hospice.
