The Life of BEATRICE BEVERLY CARVOUR
Beatrice B. Carvour, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Carlisle Care Center in Carlisle, Iowa. She was born January 4, 1926, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Teunis and Opal Huisman.
Beatrice graduated from Sheldon High School and then St. Vincent’s Accredited College of Nursing in Sioux City as part of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. She began her nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City. On September 2, 1947, Bea married Leslie G. H. Carvour in Sheldon, and they made their home in Des Moines, Iowa. She continued her nursing career in Des Moines, at the V.A. Hospital, Wilden Hospital, and Des Moines General Hospital, while raising her family.
Beams of Grace Tabernacle was her home church until its closure, then the family attended Calvary Church of the Open Bible.
She loved reading God’s Word, travel, crossword puzzles, shopping, ice cream, and anything involving her grandchildren.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband Leslie, her brother Marvin, and her granddaughter Lisa.
She is survived by her children: Mickey (Mary Lynn) Carvour of Altoona, IA, Barbara (James) Fjordbak of Riverside, IA, and Susan (Larry) Adams of Cheyenne, WY; brothers: Donald Huisman of Sheldon, IA, James Huisman of Rock Island, IL, and Kenneth Huisman of Charleston, SC; sisters: Zora Penning of Papillion, NE, Rhoda McNab of Brewster, MN, and Constance Adams of Spencer, IA; four grandchildren: Tim Adams of Cheyenne, WY, Todd Adams of Laramie, WY, Martha Carvour of Dallas, TX, and Matthew Carvour of Des Moines; three great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. following visitation. Private family interment will be on Wednesday.
