The Life of GAYLE ARLENE HAVEL

Gayle Havel, 78, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, with the funeral service starting at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Gayle was born January 21, 1935, to Leonard and Eloise (Wenig) Franz in Gray, Iowa. She worked for 30 years as the secretary to the director of the State of Iowa Health Department. Gayle enjoyed working in the garden, always had a spark about her, loved to laugh, was very passionate and strong-willed, and was always ready to feed anyone at a moment’s notice. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Gayle is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd; her children: Renae (Bob) VonStein, and Greg Havel; her grandchildren: Greg (Bertina) VonStein, and Angela (Peter) McKernan; her great grandchildren: Jaiden and Colin VonStein, and Grace and Penelope McKernan; her siblings: Jeanette Burton and David Franz; and her sister-in-law, Helen (Gene) Williamson. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: Meredith Franz, Phyllis Harrison, and Marilyn Berry. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston in loving memory of Gayle.
