The Life of EILEEN RICHARDS DAWSON

Eileen Richards Dawson, 92, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial graveside service is being planned for later in the spring 2013, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Eileen was born April 8, 1920, in Bristow, Iowa, to William Albert and Lela Claire (Newbury) Richards. They moved to Des Moines in 1933. Eileen was a 1937 graduate of Roosevelt High School. On January 14, 1938, she married H. King Dawson in Des Moines. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Larry C. and L. Richard "Dick". For 22 years, Eileen was formerly employed as a medical secretary for various doctors. She was active in P.T.A., Cub Scouts, and was a 50-year member of Des Moines Chapter 89 of Eastern Star. She is survived by one son, Dick (Cynthia) Dawson of Corrales, New Mexico; daughter-in-law, Twyla Dawson, five grandchildren, David Dawson, Paul Dawson and Jennifer (Jeff) VanDerSluis all of Des Moines, and Beth (Fred) Prout and John Dawson both of California; 15 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Eileen was preceded into eternal life by and will join her parents, W. A. and Lela C. Richards; her husband of 70 years, King Dawson; one son, Larry Dawson; brother, Lee Richards; sister, Frances Holtzschue; and one grandson, Mark Dawson.
