The Life of MARTHA YOUNG
Martha Young, 71, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Per her request, her body has been cremated and private family services will be held at a later date.
Martha was born August 24, 1941, in Sac City, Iowa, to Curtis and Myrtle Grooms. She was an executive secretary for various CPA firms throughout Des Moines. Martha loved being a grandmother, spending time with her grandchildren and attending all of their activities, and they loved her cooking. She was very close to all of her nieces and nephews, and had an extra special bond with her twin sister, Mary. Martha and her family spent the last 40 years at their second home on Holiday Lake. She also enjoyed following politics, music, and she had a great love of reading.
Martha is survived by her loving husband, Tom Young, Sr.; children, Tom Young, II, and Teri Douglas; stepdaughter, Tommi Ann (Greg) Adams; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emma Young, and Amanda and Shane Douglas; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; twin sister and best friend, Mary; and sisters, Midge and Peggy. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Tyler; and sisters, Nene and Doris.
