Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery. Born August 14th 1921 in Trees City Louisiana (also referred to as Standard Oil’s Caddo Pump Station-near Vivian, LA) to Beauman Noble and the former Ava Sanders of Provencal, Louisiana. Doye attended elementary school in Trees City. She attended middle school in Zwolle. While in Zwolle, she played basketball in high school and was voted Miss Zwolle in 1936. She then won the title of Miss Sabine Parish at the Parish Fair in Many, LA and competed in the Miss Louisiana pageant at age fifteen. She attended and graduated valedictorian from Converse High School in Converse, LA. Doye went to Louisiana State Normal College (now Northwestern University) in Natchitoches, LA and earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education in May of 1942. In the fall of 1942 she began her professional teaching career teaching English and Science at Big Lake High School in Cameron parish for one year. From 1944 to 1947 she was a Health and Physical Education teacher at Lafayette High School where her fondest memory was taking her girls basketball team to the State’s Sweet Sixteen Tournament. In November of 1947 she married her love Herbert P Lanclos. From 1947 to 1959 she taught at Myrtle Place School as an elementary teacher. She returned to college to earn her second degree, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now UL) in 1954. From 1959 to 1969, she taught fourth grade at Lafayette Elementary School and in 1970 returned to Myrtle Place, still teaching fourth grade until retirement. Her years in the teaching profession totaled 30. Upon retirement she was described by superiors as having a “sympathetic ear for her pupils and co-workers” and that she was “never a bystander, always a doer”. In addition to her professional teaching career, she taught in the children’s Sunday School program at the First United Methodist Church in Lafayette for 40 years. After retiring Doye took up bowling as one of her passions in 1972, remaining active in the Lafayette bowling community until she was no longer able to bowl in her late 80’s. During that span, she competed in over nine leagues such as the Power Puff, Courage, Guys and Dolls and Pin Dusters. She served as either President or Vice President of the Powder Puff league from 1978-2003, an officer of the Courage league from 1976-1990, a Board of Director since 1978 until 1985 and was then elected second vice president and served in that position until 2003 of the Lafayette Women’s Bowling Association (LWBA), a National Delegate from 1085-1993 and a State Delegate from 1977-2001. She was honored as LWBA’s Hall of Fame, Member Emeritae in 2003, an honor she loved dearly. Naturally she was a regular competitor in several local, state and national tournaments, with particular fondness of the Grandmothers Tournament of which she completed in for over 28 years. Doye provided unending support of her grandchildren in many ways but particularly in their educational and career experiences and successes. In the fall of 1997, she joined her granddaughters’ passion and became an Alumnae Initiate of the Delta Beta Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) women’s fraternity. She regularly supported the local chapter during recruitment and maintained her Alumnae membership until recently when her health failed her. A few of her other favorite things included sports (bowling, football and basketball), reading, crossword puzzles, candy corn, old TV classics and comics from the daily newspaper. She could always be found with children if they were around and was a very loyal friend to many. Doye valued prayer, education, clean fun competition, family relationships and strong work ethics. She leaves behind one sister, Maxine Noble Landry of Carencro, her son, Jeff L. Brooks Jr., RPh and his wife Rose of DeRidder; her beloved grandchildren, James Beauman Brooks, RN of Shreveport and Joan Ava Brooks Landry, PhD and her husband Jason A Landry, MD of Lafayette, great grandchildren Beau Foote of Lake Charles and Jayme Brooks of New Iberia. In addition, cousins, nieces, nephews, good neighbors, loyal friends and beloved care givers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Beauman and Ava Noble, her husband Herbert P. Lanclos and one sister, Bobbie Rae Noble Provost. Pallbearers will be Bill Fontenot, Ken Morris, Richard Hanes, James B. Brooks, and Donald D. Landry.
