The Life of BETTY NADINE WALKER
B. Nadine Walker, 87, of Des Moines died Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, December 24 at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Nadine was born February 1, 1925 to Willie and Vona (Clark) Green who farmed near Bethany, MO. After she and Dale Walker were married on February 15, 1946 they farmed together in Missouri before moving to Winterset, IA. They settled in Des Moines in 1957. She worked as a waitress at various clubs including the Embassy Club, Elks and Shrine Clubs while also making a home for her family. She was a member of Highland Park Christian Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three children, Larry Walker of Des Moines, Gary (Linda) Walker of Linden, IA and Betty Deane (Danny) Thurman of Pleasant Hill; seven grandchildren, Tiffany (Jon) Filloon, Rodney (Lodi) Larson, Michelle (Elijah) Kastner, Michael (Krystal) Walker, Dennis (Cindy) Thurman, Doug (Tracie) Thurman and Danielle Thurman; 16 great grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Castleman. Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; sister, Mildred Green; brother, J.D. Green; and grandson, Danny Thurman, Jr.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 23 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
