The Life of Calwood Gautreau
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 3, 2012, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette, for Calwood Gautreau, 90, who died on Friday, November 30, 2012 in Lafayette. Entombment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park Mausoleum. Reverend Thomas Voorhies, Pastor of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 71 years, Ella Mae Gautreau; one daughter, Jo Ann Person and her husband Patrick; four sons, Wayne Gautreau and his wife Jane, Glen Gautreau and his wife Sandy, James Gautreau and his wife Theresa and Gary Gautreau and his wife Wendy; twelve grandchildren, Michael, Tanya, Tricia, Tasha, Rowdy, Stacey, Jamie, Heidi, Dawn, Shannon, Randy and Brandi; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and one sister, Ruby Duos. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Moise McCauley Gautreau; one sister, Lula Fontenot; and one step-brother, Curry McCauley.
Cal proudly served his country as a member of the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. In his early career, he was a rice farmer in the Ville Platte area. He later moved to Lafayette and was the owner and operator of Cal''s Western Store for 53 years. Cal was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. He was a true family man who was a devoted caretaker of his wife. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Gautreau, James Gautreau, Gary Gautreau, Michael Gautreau, Rowdy Gautreau, Patrick Person and Glen Gautreau.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille''s DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
