The Life of SHIRLEY ANN BENSKIN

Shirley Benskin, 82, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines. She was born October 10, 1930, in Des Moines, to Mae (Mimi) and Earl Westbrook. Shirley grew up on the family farm with her sisters, Winnie, Dorothy, and Betty, and her brother, Don. She graduated from Valley High School. Shirley married Robert Benskin, and they had one daughter, Sherrie. Shirley was a secretary for American Red Cross for 37½ years, and then was a volunteer at First Federated Church. She was always a career woman and liked her work. Shirley was a people person who enjoyed going to different restaurants to eat and see her friends – especially Drake Diner, Cracker Barrel, and Mama Lacona’s. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sherrie Benskin; sister, Betty Sayler of Colorado; brother-in-law, Bill Benskin; as well as many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Friday, November 16, 2012, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Shirley.
