The Life of NORMA JEAN BROWN

Norma Jean Brown, 82, of West Des Moines, passed away peacefully Friday, October 26, 2012, at Manor Care, with her family by her side, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer and lymphoma. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, November 9, at the Basilica of St. John. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Norma was born on April 21, 1930, in Des Moines to Wayne and Mary (Woefel) Usher. She worked for Meredith Publishing as a department manager for 25 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, she worked part time at Younker''s Department Store. Norma enjoyed pets, shopping and traveling to visit family. Her greatest happiness in life was her four children. She will be remembered for her kind and gentle nature. Those left to cherish her memory include her four children, Doug (Michelle) of Danville, CA, Greg of West Des Moines, Dale of San Jose, CA and Laurie (Henry) Schneider of West Des Moines; and former husband, Clyde Brown. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 8, at Iles Funeral Homes-Dunn''s Chapel, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Norma''s family wishes to thank Manor Care for their compassionate care in her final weeks and HCI Care services for their support in her final days. They also wish to extend special thanks to Dr. Robert Shreck and his nurses, Tami and Katie, for their years of extraordinary care and accessibility through this difficult time.
