The Life of HAROLD LEE BROWN

Harold L. Brown, 81, of Des Moines, died Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice after a long illness. Harold was born October 24, 1930, in Corning, Iowa, to Lawrence and Bernice Brandon Weckman, and adopted in 1932 by Glen and Agnes Brandon Brown of Corning after the death of his birth mother. He was a 1948 graduate of North High School in Des Moines and a 1955 graduate of Drake University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. Harold and Ruth Anne Beard of Des Moines were married in 1953 and had four children. He worked for several places in Des Moines including Iowa Savings and Loan and as an urban development construction specialist for the city of Des Moines. In 1988 he married Loretta Hiatt and they lived for several years in St. Petersburg, FL, where he was a codes investigator for the city. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his birth brother, Lawrence Ivan Weckman; and birth sisters, Norma Wickwire, Mary Loudon, Kitty DeFabio; and also his wife, Loretta. He is survived by his children, Kenneth (Denise) Brown of Eastport, ME; Louise (Scott) Rhode of Iowa City; Keith (Diane) Brown of West Liberty; Philip (Kris) Brown of Anamosa; grandchildren, Caleb Brown of Athens, OH; Ethan Brown of Iowa City; Nick and Ross Brown of West Liberty, and Josiah and Leah Brown of Anamosa. Also surviving are his step-daughter, Connie Cummings of Des Moines, her sons, Jerry Wilson and Jeff (Christine) Wilson; and grandchildren, Makenzie Moore and Annissa Wilson. He is also survived by his good friend, Gerry King of Des Moines. A graveside remembrance will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts may be directed to Taylor House Hospice, 3401 E.
