The Life of Joan McDonnell Wheeler

Joan Wheeler, age 81, wife of Ernest Wheeler and resident of Ansonia, entered into eternal rest July 21, 2012. She was born January 17, 1931 in Ansonia, daughter of the late James & Anastatia Ahern McDonnell. Joan worked as a children's librarian for Ansonia Library for 20 years and also worked for the Derby Neck, Monroe & Trumbull libraries. She was a parishioner of the Church of the Assumption in Ansonia, where she also served as a Lecture, Eucharistic Minister, and chairperson for the church Liturgy, Parish Council and homeless meal Committee's. She was also a member of the Board of the Julia Day Nursery. In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Michelle Gill (Daniel) of Montclair, N.J. , Christine Moskowitz (Bruce) of Staten Island, N.Y., son Kevin Wheeler ( Susan Smith) of Wallingford, five grandsons, Brendan, Connor, Patrick, John & Matthew, three granddaughters, Kiara, Jessica & Lydia, great grandson Gabriel and great granddaughter Kristen. Joan was predeceased by her brother James McDonnell. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 25 at 8:30 a.m. from the Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. (www.jenkinskingfh.com) The funeral will leave for a Mass of Christian Burial Celebrated at 9:30 a.m. from The Church of the Assumption in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia. Friends may call on Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joan's memory may be made to The Church of the Assumption, 61, N. Cliff St. Ansonia, CT.
