The Life of HAZEL LAVONNE NEWBROUGH
LaVonne Newbrough, 86, of Urbandale, passed away March 29, 2007, at Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Iles Funeral Home - Westover Chapel located at 6337 Hickman Road in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
LaVonne McKitrick was born September 16, 1920 in Humboldt, Iowa to Douglas and Cora (Schulz) McKitrick. She graduated from Humboldt High School. On October 11, 1937, she married Daryl Newbrough in Humboldt, Iowa.
She was a member of the Urbandale Garden Club for 30 years, and loved growing and arranging flowers. She won numerous awards at local and state flower shows. Another of her favorite hobbies was collecting and displaying moustache cups. If any local auction bill mentioned them, she was there ready to bid.
She is survived by her four children, Glenn (Marilyn) Newbrough of Iowa City, Iowa, Pat Newbrough of Ovilla, Texas, Dennis Newbrough of Urbandale, Iowa, and Marcia (Eldon) Heaivilin of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Theresa Weaver, Sheila Wilson, Diane Heaivilin, and Stacey Ascione; and, one great-grandson, Tyler.
LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2007, at Westover Chapel, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
