The Life of Florence Waters Hofmann

Florence W. Hofmann, age 83, of Newtown and formerly of Southbury and Seymour, died with her family at her side on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Irving H. Hofmann, Jr. Florence was born October 24, 1928, in Derby, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ellen (Kennelly) Waters, grew up in Ansonia and lived most of her adult life raising her family in Seymour, before retiring to Heritage Village in Southbury. A graduate of Ansonia High School, Florence worked for many years at Isaacson’s Family Clothing Store in Seymour before embarking on a fifteen year career in the Seymour Housing Authority where she began as a secretary and retired as Director. Florence was a loving and generous wife, mother and grandmother who demonstrated both strength and grace despite battling a debilitating muscle disease for many years. She will always be remembered for her positive outlook on life and for her support and devotion to her family. Florence was a knowledgeable and avid sports fan who enjoyed watching NASCAR and rooting for the New York Mets and, most of all, the New York Giants. For many years she was a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Seymour and later Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. Florence leaves behind her son and his wife, Irving and Debbie Hofmann of Oxford, and her daughter and her husband, Anne and Dr. James Uberti of Woodbury. She was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ellen and Dr. William Cohen. She was the proud grandmother of Kevin Hofmann, Erin Hofmann Lane, Blakeley Cohen, Adrienne Hofmann, Elise Uberti, and Nicholas Uberti, as well as the great-grandmother of Ellie and Rex Lane. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Assumption Church 61 N. Cliff St., Ansonia (DIRECTLY) , with burial immediately following at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. There will be no calling hours. The Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour has care of the arrangements.
