The Life of Frank J. Tate

Frank J. Tate Sr. passed away peacefully at home Saturday morning, April 28, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence K. and Glenna L. Tate and first wife, Bernice Nolan Tate. Frank is survived by his wife, Rebecca Brooks Tate and his son, F. Joseph Tate (Karen) and daughters, Terri and Christine. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelley Layel (Tom) and Mark J. Tate, Jacob and Sophia Picarelli; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kensley Layel. Frank was born Jan. 8, 1918 in Massillon, Ohio where he became an Eagle Scout, President of the class of 1936 and played football for Paul Brown on one of his famous Massillon teams. A World War II veteran he served in the Army Air Corps and retired from The U.S. Army Intelligence Reserved Group with the rank of Major. Graduate of The Ohio State University with a B/S and Masters in Journalism where he was the Editor of The Lantern while in school. He was program director at WCOL when it was a NBC affiliate. He served as the Associate Director of the OSU Alumni Association and was Managing Editor of the OSU 'Monthly' magazine for many years, also teaching in the School of Journalism. He retired with Emeritus Status in 1980. Having sung with the 'Big Bands' that toured Ohio and West Virginia, he had a love of that style of music that never left him and was listening to it when he passed. He also had a love of golf and, most importantly, his family. His Voice will be sorely missed. He certainly led a life of Distinction and Valor. There will be an open house style Celebration of Life for Frank on June 10, 2012 at the Worthington United Methodist Church, 600 High St., Worthington, Ohio between 2-4 p.m. in the Browning Lounge
