The Life of MICHAEL FRANCIS MCELWEE
Michael McElwee, 70, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He was born September 9, 1941, in Des Moines, to Francis and Eunice McElwee.
Michael graduated from Dowling High School in 1959, and then attended the University of Iowa. He worked has a medical technologist for 35 years, spending the last 24 years at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and reading. Michael was adventurous and loved to travel.
Michael is survived by his wife, Cherry; brother, Dave (Bobbi) McElwee; step-son, Chad (Karen Arbogast) Cooper; grandchildren, Alicia and Krista; nieces, Brooke, Janice, Janet, Joann, Tywla, Laura, Teresa, Lisa and Leslie; and nephew, Bret. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his aunt and uncle, Gladee and Art Peavey.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 321 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church in loving memory of Michael.
