The Life of James Nathan Stansbury

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette, for Nathan Stansbury, 77, who died on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will be in Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery. Reverend Monsignor Keith DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Con-Celebrant will be Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette. Giftbearers will be Derek Stansbury, Sydney Stansbury and Kennedy Stansbury. Lector will be Lisa Stansbury. Jodi Bollich, soloist, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist, will sing "Ave Maria", "One Bread, One Body", "Amazing Grace" and "Pie Jesu" for the services. Survivors include his son, James Craig Stansbury and his wife Nicole; three grandchildren, Derek Stansbury, Sydney Stansbury and Kennedy Stansbury; one sister, Ann Redlich and her husband Ted; one brother, Howard Stansbury, Jr. and his wife Alice; one niece, Lisa Stansbury; and two nephews, Jeff Bennett and Stephen Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Stansbury, Sr. and Sara Ann DeRouen Stansbury. Nathan Stansbury was a lifelong resident of Lafayette and the District Attorney for the 15th Judicial District Court for 22 years. He served as President of United Way of Acadiana, was a member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association and participated with the Boys & Girls Club. He also served on the Governor's Committee on Youth & Children, headed the Leadership Lafayette Program for the Chamber of Commerce and was very active in the Lafayette Juvenile and Young Adult Program. Mr. Stansbury was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman, loved the outdoors and enjoyed serving the people of the 15th Judicial District. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the Acadiana Community. Pallbearers will be Derek Stansbury, Craig Stansbury, Ted Redlich and Donald Breaux. Honorary Pallbearer will be Howard Stansbury, Jr. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Lafayette location on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed on by Brady LeBlanc on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Dr. Nathan Landry and the staff of Cornerstone Village South for the compassionate care they gave to Nathan for so many years. A sincere thank you also to the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and Heart of Hospice for being there in this time of need and making sure his transition was a peaceful one.
