The Life of Norman H. Jr. Smith

Norman H. Smith Jr. age 86, of Ansonia CT & North Port, Florida, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2012. He was born December 22, 1925 in Derby, son of the late Norman & Augusta Smith Sr. He was also predeceased by his first wife Edna Mae Blewett Smith, his son Carl N. Smith Sr. and his sister Doris Smith Martin. Norman is survived by his loving wife Anne Edwards Smith, two daughters, Marilyn S. (Dennis) Grieve of Washington, N.C. & Patricia J. (Michael) Bourque of North Port, FL., seven grandchildren, Carl N. Smith Jr. of Ansonia CT., Valerie G. (Steven) Harris of Washington N.C., Kevin E. (Shana A.) Grieve of Simpson N.C., Erin B. (Lou) Discko of Ansonia CT and Michelle L. (Brendan) Toop, Christopher M. Bourque, and Allison M. Bourque, all of North Port, FL., five great grandchildren, Kailey G. and Emma B. Harris of Washington, N.C., Carl N. Smith III of Ansonia, CT., Sabrina Discko of Ansonia, CT and Britton A. Grieve of Simpson, N.C., his sister Betty Lou McCann of Spartanburg, S.C., his brother Donald W. Smith of North Port, FL and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Norman served his country in World War II in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. He served the city of Ansonia as Fire Chief, Fire Marshall and as a dedicated member of the Fountain Hose Company # 1 for 55 years. Norman was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ansonia CT and also the North Port Community United Church of Christ in Florida. He was in partnership with Greywacz and Smith Building Contractors for over 40 years, building both the First Baptist Church in Ansonia, CT and the First Baptist Church in Shelton, CT. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 14th at 10:00 a.m. at The First Baptist Church, 178 Leavenworth Road, Shelton, CT. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia. Friends may call on Friday, April 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia, CT. (www.jenkinskingfh.com) Additional services will be held on April 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at The North Port Community United Church of Christ in North Port, Florida.
